I love the outdoors and am very active. I have read that your target heart rate can be your biggest fitness tool. How do I find mine?

There are several ways of finding an approximation for your target heart rate, but this one is pretty good:
1. Find your resting pulse rate. Sit quietly for 10 minutes without drinking or eating anything and then take a reading of your pulse for a minute. Note this down. Let's call it RP.
2. Find your maximum pulse rate. The easiest way to do this is 220 take away your age. Let's call it MP.
3. Now plug those values into the formula:
0.5x(MP-RP)+RP
This is the bottom end of your target heart rate.
4. Now plug them into this formula:
0.85x(MP-RP)+RP
This is the top end of your target heart rate.
Best of luck!
