I want to take up cycling. Which brand of road bike is a good one for beginners (preferably less than $1000)?

$1000 bucks is more than enough cash to get a good road bike. Look into the Specialized Sirrus Hybrid Bike, it's about $500 bucks and good for beginners. It can be used on the road for a variety of your needs. You can even race with it if you want to.
