Most people breathe using only their diaphragm but when I started to do yoga, I was taught to "belly breathe". Years later, I discovered that if I belly breathe while running I have more stamina and never gasp for breath. The premise is that we usually are not breathing deeply enough. Belly breathing is simple. Inhale through your nose all the way down past your diaphragm and into your abdomen. Exhale through your nose. It takes a while to remember to breathe differently but it is worth it.
