I've heard a thousand definitions over the course of my life. What do you fine readers of Manism think makes a man a real man?

Good question...I think a lot of society has changed the definition of what it is to be a real man. One thing that I'd say makes a real man is strength. I don't just mean physical strength. I mean the strength to persevere when shit hits the fan. When things don't go your way do you keep going or do you put your tail between your legs and run? I've been in situations where I had to use an insane amount of strength. I've been severely hospitalized from major surgeries, but the ability to move forward no matter what got me through. I'd also put in traits such as courage and morality in there as well.

The most important trait is self-actualization. A real man knows his purpose and path in life, isn't swayed from it by others, and he naturally improves the life of anyone he encounters. He protects those close to him and knows what he stands for. A real man is a man with purpose.
Note the lack of anything resembling: number of women he's slept with/type of car he drives/power and prestige associated with his job/money he makes. A man is not the various things in his life, he is himself.

He may not necessarily be appreciated, understood nor remembered but a real man continues to live to his highest purpose, give his deepest gifts and embrace the ultimate being filled with love that is within him. He lives fearlessly because he is doing everything in his power to change circumstances and events he does not agree with and releases everything else that is out of his control. He makes the best of and enjoys the present moment knowing that nothing ever lasts - material objects, emotions, people and experiences all may come and then spontaneously disappear.
Good luck in your search for meaning.
