What types of clothes will make me look tougher without looking stupid?

I'm kind of scrawny. What are some good clothes options if I want to give the impression that I'm more buff than I actually am?

It's tough bro....especially when you're thin. I think the best solution is to just start working out and putting on some muscle mass. In the mean time, try wearing tighter shirts. Stay clear of the popular 'tough guy' brands like Affliction, a lot of those guys just look stupid. I mean everyone thinks they're an MMA fighter these days. Also if you are tall look for shirts in a long and tall size, they usually fit us lean guys much better, making us look bigger.

Why do you want to look more buff than you are? The clothes won't make look tougher, but your posture and body language will. You'd be surprised at how much space you can take up and at how confident you feel with good body language.

  • Stand up straight, shoulders back and relaxed
  • Chin up, smile, and look people in the eyes
  • be aware of open/closed body language- make sure you're not excessively crossing your legs or arms

As far as clothes go, I'd say fitted (not too tight, not too baggy) and clean clothes (no crazy patterns or logos) are best. Or whatever clothes you feel comfortable in; if you have confident body language it really doesn't matter what clothes you wear.
