I hear about "pro gamers" all the time but I've got no idea how you get started with that. Do you sign up for tournaments or something?

Good question. Part of the answer is to be prepared to spend all your spare time doing it. You start your gaming career by picking a game or two you like, then start playing at LANs or competing online. You'll have to practice a lot, get serious about it and play against others who are at the top of their game in different sites.
You'll have to play the best to become the best, that will help you improve your reputation online.
