I can’t find a full time job right now. Will it kill my resume to take up a part-time or temp job?

Rob, the woods are full of so-called experts on this subject of "full time jobs vs part-time or temp jobs", but this is one you have to make up your own mind on. The guys on both sides of the issue have valid points, so maybe you should think around, through, and over them.

Case in point: No job at all means no money for gas, food, rent etc. You have to survive and as you noted it's taking a while. It could take even longer, much longer.

Case in point: What will an employer think if you went 6 months or a year without work? That you're lazy? That no one will hire you because they found out something bad a bout you? That you love unemployment?

My opinion?

  • Take whatever temp job or part-time job you can find: They won't hold you back from continuing to look.
  • Be prepared to sheepishly defend your decision in an interview to work temp jobs:

"Mr. Blainewright, I just find it impossible to stay at home and not be working; it just seems somehow unnatural to me"
