Women are more fertile when they are ovulating (which happens approximately two weeks before their period.)
There is however, no exact science to this. Not all women will ovulate on the fourteenth day and it can also differ for women from month to month.
A woman only ovulates once during her menstrual cycle, but sperm can live as long as five days inside a woman, so intercourse five days before or after ovulation, could still lead to pregnancy.
